Unexplained infertility is a frustrating condition where, despite extensive testing, no cause for infertility can be found. Many couples with unexplained infertility will go on to get pregnant naturally, and learning the Fertility Awareness Method can help speed up the process! Here is one couple’s story:
A little background. My husband and I had been trying unsuccessfully for 2 1/2 years to get pregnant. We were what doctors refer to as having ‘unexplained infertility’. We had numerous tests including monitored Clomiphene cycles, scans every month, blood tests every week, dye tests – the list went on, with still no explanation as to why we still weren’t pregnant. I had had enough. Then a few months ago we met Juliette Millar from Fertility Focus (guest speaker for a local infertility group). We learnt a lot of things we didn’t know before and arranged to meet with her to discuss our issues. After taking an in-depth history, Juliette showed me how to chart my cycle – taking my temperature daily and recording cervical fluid changes. With these charts we were able to tell when ovulation occurred and when was the most fertile time to conceive. We also used my charts to look for potential causes behind our infertility. With the information she gave us we were able to time sex more correctly, which we suspected was a big part of the problem. I found Juliette gave me hope – that although I was suspect about the whole thing there was hope. I found her very approachable and best of all it wasn’t expensive. Juliette spoke to specialists on my behalf and gave me advice when I needed it. Only 2 months later, my temperature went up and stayed up for 18 days which is an indication of pregnancy. After so many negative tests I was hesitant. I took a test and then another and yes they were positive. Finally I am going to have a baby. I am now 19 weeks pregnant, I have had my 12 week scan and am due for my 20 week scan next week. I am having what they call a textbook pregnancy. One thing I would like to say to others with unexplained infertility is never give up hope. UPDATE: Stacey has had a darling baby boy! See his photo above. Stacey Tauranga, New Zealand
